GROUP A

Saturday, June 14
Al Ahly 0-0 Inter Miami CF

Sunday, June 15
Palmeiras 0-0 FC Porto

Thursday, June 19
Palmeiras 2-0 Al Ahly
Inter Miami 2-1 FC Porto

Monday, June 23
Inter Miami 2-2 Palmeiras
FC Porto 4-4 Al Ahly

Despite the entertaining 4-4 draw between Porto and Al Ahly, neither team were able to qualify, as Palmeiras’ 2-2 draw against Inter Miami sees the Brazilian side qualify as group winners and the MLS side through as runners-up.

Palmeiras will now have an all-Brazilian round-of-16 affair against Botafogo in Philadelphia on June 28, while Miami will take on PSG in Atlanta on June 29.

GROUP B

Sunday, June 15
Paris Saint-Germain 4-0 Atlético Madrid
Botafogo 2-1 Seattle Sounders FC

Thursday, June 19
Seattle Sounders 1-3 Atlético Madrid
Paris Saint-Germain 0-1 Botafogo

Monday, June 23
Atlético Madrid 1-0 Botafogo
Seattle Sounders 0-2 Paris Saint-Germain

With PSG beating Seattle Sounders, that meant Atlético Madrid had to defeat Botafogo by three goals to stay in the Club World Cup.

Atlético only managed to win 1-0, so PSG win the group and Botafogo go through in second.

GROUP C

Sunday, June 15
Bayern Munich 10-0 Auckland City

Monday, June 16
Boca Juniors 2-2 Benfica

Friday, June 20
Benfica 6-0 Auckland City
Bayern Munich 1-0 Boca Juniors

Tuesday, June 24
Auckland City 1-1 Boca Juniors
Benfica 1-0 Bayern Munich

Benfica pulled off a surprise 1-0 win over Bayern Munich on the final matchday, which not only sent them through to the round of 16 … it won them the group too.

It also meant Boca Juniors’ weather-delayed match against Auckland City was meaningless.

GROUP D

Monday, June 16
Chelsea 2-0 LAFC
Flamengo 2-0 Espérance de Tunis

Friday, June 20
Flamengo 3-1 Chelsea
LAFC 0-1 Espérance de Tunis

Tuesday, June 24
Espérance de Tunis 0-3 Chelsea
LAFC 1-1 Flamengo

Chelsea snatched a convincing 3-0 win over Espérance de Tunis to secure the runners-up spot in Group D and will now face Benfica in the round of 16. Flamengo — as group winners — will take on Bayern Munich.

GROUP E

Tuesday, June 17
River Plate 3-1 Urawa Red Diamonds
Monterrey 1-1 Internazionale

Saturday, June 21
Internazionale 2-1 Urawa Red Diamonds
River Plate 0-0 Monterrey

Wednesday, June 25
Internazionale vs. River Plate, 9 p.m. ET (Seattle)
Urawa Red Diamonds vs. Monterrey, 9 p.m. ET (Pasadena)

With Inter Milan and River Plate facing each other, it’s possible one of the teams will miss out on the round of 16 — if Monterrey beat Urawa Red Diamonds.

RIVER PLATE

Guaranteed to qualify with a win or a draw of 2-2 or higher scoring.

Win: Qualify as group winners.

Draw: Qualify as group winners if Monterrey lose or draw. If Monterrey win, the places will be decided by mini-league head-to-head goal difference — with Inter (1-1) always ahead of River Plate (0-0).

If Monterrey win and River Plate draw 0-0, River Plate are out.

If Monterrey win and River Plate draw 1-1, River Plate have the same head-to-head goal difference as Monterrey (1-1) for second. If Monterrey win by one goal, Inter top the group and River Plate are second. If Monterrey win by two goals, goal difference is the same so second place is decided on total goals scored. If, as an example, Monterrey win 3-1 and River draw 1-1, goals scored is identical and second place is decided on disciplinary points (River Plate -10; Monterrey -6). If that’s level, it’s a random draw.

If Monterrey win and River Plate draw 2-2 or higher scoring, Inter top the group with River Plate in second.

Lose: Eliminated if Monterrey win, through in second if Monterrey draw or lose.

INTERNAZIONALE

Guaranteed to qualify with a win or a draw.

Win: Qualify as group winners

Draw: Guaranteed to qualify. If Monterrey win, the places will be decided by mini-league head-to-head goal difference — with Inter always ahead of River Plate.

If Monterrey win and Inter draw 0-0, River Plate are out with first place decided on group goal difference. Inter would only be sure of topping the group if Monterrey win 1-0 (see Monterrey section). If Monterrey win by two or more goals, they would top the group.

Lose: Eliminated if Monterrey win, through in second if Monterrey draw or lose.

MONTERREY

Must win to have a chance, and would definitely qualify if either River Plate or Inter Milan lose. If the other game is a draw, it’s more complicated.

If it’s Inter 0-0 River Plate, Monterrey qualify along with Inter. First place with Inter is decided on group goal difference. If Monterrey get a victory by two goals or more, they top the group. If they win by one goal, it comes down to group goals scored — it could yet finish level (e.g. a 2-1 win leaves both nations on 3-2) and then it’s goes to disciplinary points (Inter -3; Monterrey -6), then a random draw.

If it’s Inter 1-1 River Plate, Inter top the group and second place is decided as set out in the River Plate section.

If it’s Inter 2-2 River Plate or higher scoring, Inter top the group with River Plate in second and Monterrey are out.

URAWA RED DIAMONDS

Eliminated.

GROUP F

Tuesday, June 17
Fluminense 0-0 Borussia Dortmund
Ulsan Hyundai 0-1 Mamelodi Sundowns

Saturday, June 21
Mamelodi Sundowns 3-4 Borussia Dortmund
Fluminense 4-2 Ulsan Hyundai, 6 p.m. ET (East Rutherford)

Wednesday, June 25
Borussia Dortmund vs. Ulsan Hyundai, 3 p.m. ET (Cincinnati)
Mamelodi Sundowns vs. Fluminense, 3 p.m. ET (Miami)

FLUMINENSE

Qualify with a win or a draw.

Win: Qualify, which will be as group winners if Borussia Dortmund draw or lose. If Borussia Dortmund win, top spot is decided on group goal difference — currently Fluminense +2, Dortmund +1. If records finish identical (e.g. Fluminense win 2-1 and Dortmund 2-0 for goal difference of 6-3), positions will be decided on disciplinary points (Fluminense -3; Dortmund -4) and then random draw.

Draw: Qualify, which will be as group winners if Borussia Dortmund draw or lose. If Borussia Dortmund win, Fluminense finish second.

Lose: Can only qualify if Borussia Dortmund also lose — then Mamelodi Sundowns top the group and second place is decided on group goal difference. Fluminense are sure go through if they lose by the same margin or smaller. If records finish identical (e.g. Fluminense lose 2-0 and Dortmund 1-0 for goal difference of 4-4), positions will be decided on disciplinary points and then random draw.

BORUSSIA DORTMUND

Qualify with a win or a draw.

Win: Qualify, which will be as group winners if Fluminense draw or lose. If Fluminense win, top spot is decided on group goal difference as set out above.

Draw: Qualify as runners-up.

Lose: Definitely qualify if Fluminense win or draw (Borussia Dortmund hold the head to head over Mamelodi Sundowns if the two teams finish on four points). If Fluminense lose, Mamelodi Sundowns top the group and second place is decided on group goal difference as set out above.

MAMELODI SUNDOWNS

Must win, because they cannot finish above Borussia Dortmund with a draw.

If Dortmund also win, Sundowns finish second.

If Dortmund draw, Sundowns top the group with Dortmund in second.

If Dortmund lose, Sundowns top the group with second decided on goal difference between Fluminense and Dortmund.

ULSAN HYUNDAI

Eliminated.

Thursday, June 26
Juventus vs. Manchester City, 3 p.m. ET (Orlando)
Wydad AC vs. Al Ain, 3 p.m. ET (Washington)

Group G has been wrapped up with one matchday still to play. Two wins from two have both Juventus and Manchester City through to the knockout round, while Wydad and Al Ain will be playing for pride next Thursday.

Juventus will top the group with a win or draw vs. Man City on Thursday, while Pep Guardiola needs a victory for his City side to finish in first place.

Real Madrid 1-1 Al Hilal
Pachuca 1-2 RB Salzburg

Sunday, June 22
Real Madrid 3-1 Pachuca
RB Salzburg 0-0 Al Hilal, 6 p.m. ET (Washington)

Thursday, June 26
Al Hilal vs. Pachuca, 9 p.m. ET (Nashville)
RB Salzburg vs. Real Madrid, 9 p.m. ET (Philadelphia)

With Real Madrid and RB Salzburg facing each other, it’s possible one of the teams will miss out on the round of 16 if Al Hilal beat Pachuca.

REAL MADRID

Guaranteed to qualify with a win or a draw.

Win: Qualify as group winners.

Draw: Qualify as group winners if Al Hilal lose or draw. If Al Hilal win, the places will be decided by mini-league and head-to-head goal difference — with Real Madrid (1-1) always ahead of RB Salzburg (0-0).

If Al Hilal win and Real Madrid draw 0-0, Real Madrid and Al Hilal are through, and top spot will be decided on overall goal difference. If Al Hilal win by one goal, Real Madrid top the group and Al Hilal are second. If Al Hilal win by two goals, goal difference is the same so first place is decided on total goals scored. If, as an example, Al Hilal win 3-1 and Real Madrid draw 0-0, goals scored is identical and second place is decided on disciplinary points (Real Madrid -5; Al Hilal -3). If that’s level, it’s a random draw. If Al Hilal win by three or more goals, they definitely top the group.

If Al Hilal win and Real Madrid draw 1-1 or a higher scoring draw, Real Madrid top the group (see other sections for second place).

Lose: Eliminated if Al Hilal win, through in second if Al Hilal draw or lose.

RB SALZBURG

Guaranteed to qualify with a win or a 2-2 draw or higher scoring.

Win: Qualify as group winners.

Draw: Qualify as group runners-up if Al Hilal lose or draw. If Al Hilal win, places will be decided by mini-league and head-to-head goal difference — with Real Madrid (1-1) always ahead of RB Salzburg (0-0).

If Al Hilal win and RB Salzburg draw 0-0, RB Salzburg are out.

If Al Hilal win and RB Salzburg draw 1-1, second place will be decided on overall goal difference. If Al Hilal win by one goal, it comes down to overall goals scored: If Al Hilal win 1-0, RB Salzburg are through in second; If Al Hilal win 2-1, goal difference is identical and second place is decided on disciplinary points (RB Salzburg -2; Al Hilal -3). If that’s level, it’s a random draw; If Al Hilal 3-2 or higher scoring, or by two or more goals, RB Salzburg are out.

If Al Hilal win and RB Salzburg draw 2-2 or higher scoring, RB Salzburg are through in second.

Lose: Eliminated if Al Hilal win, through in second if Al Hilal draw or lose.

AL HILAL

Must win to have a chance, and would definitely qualify if either Real Madrid or RB Salzburg lose. If the other game is a draw, it’s more complicated.

If it’s RB Salzburg 0-0 Real Madrid, Al Hilal qualify along with Real Madrid. First place with Real Madrid is decided on group goal difference as set out in the Real Madrid section.

If it’s RB Salzburg 1-1 Real Madrid, Real Madrid top the group and second place is decided as set out in the RB Salzburg section.

If it’s RB Salzburg 2-2 Real Madrid or higher scoring, Real Madrid top the group with RB Salzburg in second and Al Hilal are out.
