Mild tremor nudges Lincoln County, just north of Huntsville

PARK CITY, Tennessee — A minor earthquake with a magnitude of 2.4 struck just south‑southwest of Park City, Tenn. — about 20 miles north of Huntsville — Saturday night, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The temblor occurred at 7:10 p.m. at a shallow depth of about 1.7 miles, with its epicenter located roughly 2 miles from Park City.

No injuries or damage have been reported. Earthquakes of this magnitude typically cause little to no noticed shaking, though individuals close to the epicenter may have felt slight tremors.

Small quakes are relatively common in the region, particularly along minor fault zones within the Appalachian Valley. Over the past week, the state has recorded multiple light tremors, including a 2.1‑magnitude event near Hopewell (further east).

The USGS classified the event as “reviewed,” indicating that experts have confirmed the initial automated magnitude and location estimates.
