NY Yankees, Mets: What’s ahead following first Subway Series matchup
After the Yankees took two out of three in the first Subway Series in 2025, what can they and the Mets expect before their July rematch.
The Yankees continue their series versus the Rangers tonight at Yankees Stadium on Amazon Prime Video.
The Bronx Bombers took the first game of this series with a 5-2 victory on Tuesday night. Starting pitcher Will Warren had another successful outing, setting a career-high in strikeouts with 10 punch outs in 5 2/3 innings of work.
Reigning American League MVP Aaron Judge continues his scorching hot start with yet another home run, his 16th of the season. The six-time All-Star is now one back off of the lead from Dodgers’ two-way star Shohei Ohtani and Phillies‘ designated hitter Kyle Schwarber, who lead MLB with 17 homers so far.
It could be a bit more of a challenging night offensively for the Yankees, as they get set to face Rangers’ ace Jacob DeGrom for the first time in over two years. A former two-time Cy Young Award winner and Rookie of the Year for the Mets, DeGrom is the healthiest he’s been in quite some time after coming off injury riddled campaigns since leaving Queens in free agency following the 2022 season.
Making his 10th start already (most since 2022), DeGrom’s earned a win in four consecutive starts, with his most recent being perhaps his best yet of 2024. He pitched eight shutout innings and struck out seven batters in a 1-0 win over the Astros on May 15.
On the mound for the Yankees will be Ryan Yarbrough, who’s a reliever turned starter for now as he’s making his third start in as many games this month. Last time out, the 33-year-old left-hander pitched a season-high five innings and earned his first victory of 2024 in a 12-2 win over the Athletics on May 11.
